Percent for Good was founded by angel investor and business mentor Mark Lyttleton. An Associate Pranic Healer and qualified meditation teacher, Mr Lyttleton places an emphasis on workplace mental health, encouraging the business owners and founders he serves to work smarter rather than harder to achieve a healthy and sustainable work-life balance. As an angel investor, Mr Lyttleton’s goal is to support early-stage companies created to achieve a positive planetary impact. To date, he has supported more than 30 ventures across a range of industries, including sustainable packaging, carbon sequestration and green energy.

What Is Percent for Good’s Mission?

Mark Lyttleton launched Percent for Good with the mission of establishing a new movement that enables professionals to pledge 1% of their salaries to support their choice of charitable cause, enabling workforces and business leaders alike to drive long-term improvement of society and the environment. The charity’s overarching ambition is to ensure 100% of senior management and 50% of workforces in partner firms donate 1% of their salaries.

What Types of Causes Does Percent for Good Support?

Charities supported by Percent for Good fall into five main categories: The Environment, Social Mobility, Education & Art, Health & Wellbeing, and Cost of Living. Each of these categories comprises five to eight hand-picked charities dedicated to tackling some of the greatest challenges faced by modern society.

Causes backed by Percent for Good include UpReach, a charity supporting people from disadvantaged areas and helping them to access jobs, and MiSST, an organisation that enables secondary school students to access classical music. Surfers Against Sewage is a Percent for Good-backed charity that campaigns for cleaner waters across the United Kingdom, while The Magic Breakfast provides daily breakfasts for children in regions with high economic need.

Why Is the Work of Percent for Good Important?

In the United Kingdom, over the last eight years, the number of citizens donating to charity has dropped by over 10%. For charities across the country, it is an incredibly challenging time, with dwindling funds yet ever-increasing need from service users.
